The Hericium Erinacceus is a very interesting mushroom. This mushroom has a few different common names such as “The Smart Mushroom”, “Pom Pom”, and most used “Lions Mane Mushroom”. The flavor and texture of this fungi fruit is far different than most other mushrooms you would have eaten. Lions Mane carries a meaty texture and a crab like taste when cooked with butter. There’s a few crab cake recipes that you can actually substitute the crab with Lions Mane… good idea.
Otherwise, these are great sautéed, in salads, soups, or any other dish that calls for mushrooms. The most important information about this mushroom, in my opinion, is the medicinal benefits that you can receive by ingesting the mushroom. Clinical studies have actually been done on this mushroom with outstanding results.
Some of the results state that Lions Mane can help with depression, fatigue, anxiety, and gut related problems. A natural compound in the mushroom has been found to also help with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and other brain issues. There is more research being done every day on this mushroom, but for now we know that there is no negative side effects but countless benefits for the human race.
